The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. John 10:10,11
Sheep are vulnerable creatures, easily led astray and unaware of lurking dangers. Without the guidance of a shepherd, they wander into harm’s way. As women, we often find ourselves in similar situations, navigating voices that promise fulfillment but ultimately leave us feeling empty, overwhelmed, or lost. The enemy does not always appear as a threat; sometimes, he disguises himself in appealing messages, cultural norms, or even well-meaning advice that pulls us away from God’s truth.
The only way to discern between the Shepherd’s voice and the thief’s deception is to stay close to Jesus. The world offers countless definitions of success, beauty, and happiness, yet none of them bring the true, abundant life that Jesus promises. The Good Shepherd doesn’t just guide us, He laid down His life so that we could walk in freedom, joy, and purpose. His love is unwavering, His care is personal, and His desire is for us to live fully in His presence.
If you feel torn between different influences, ask yourself: Is this leading me toward peace, love, and life, or toward anxiety, emptiness, and destruction? The surest way to recognize the Shepherd’s voice is to immerse yourself in His Word and allow the truth of Scripture to shape your thoughts and choices.
Today, take a moment to reflect on the influences in your life, the people you listen to, the messages you consume, and the paths you are following. Are they leading you closer to Jesus or away from Him? Ask the Lord to reveal any areas where the enemy may be stealing your joy or distorting your purpose. Then, lean into the presence of your Good Shepherd, who loves you, calls you by name, and leads you into abundant life.
