Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways. Psalms 119:37
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3
One of the greatest battles we face as women is the battle within our own minds, the constant stream of thoughts, worries, and judgments that seem to never quiet down. We’re uniquely wired to be aware of many things at once: the needs of others, the atmosphere of a room, the details no one else notices. But this gift of heightened awareness can become a burden when not directed with wisdom and care.
Our minds function much like a parrot, echoing back what we feed them. If we constantly ingest degrading information, bad news, or anxious thoughts, our minds will replay them on a loop. The best way to nurture our minds and our entire being is to feed the very words we would like to keep hearing. If we nourish our thoughts with truth, grace, and the voice of God, those are the words that will take root and grow.
Isaiah gave us a timeless key: peace, deep, unshakable peace, comes when our minds are fixed on God. In Hebrew, the phrase “perfect peace” is actually “shalom, shalom”—a doubling that emphasizes a complete and holistic sense of well-being, wholeness, and harmony. Isn’t that what every soul longs for?
We live in a world saturated with noise, chaotic headlines, profane images, and endless distractions, that slowly chip away at our inner peace. But we do have a choice. We can decide what we let into our minds, what we dwell on, and what we allow to echo inside us. Choosing shalom is always the better path.
So today, pay attention to the thoughts circling your mind. Where did they come from? What is feeding them? What boundaries might you need to set to protect your peace? Ask the Father to help you make the difficult choices to turn your eyes away from looking at worthless things. Create concrete steps to protect you from the very things that are taking away your peace, and instead, carve out space in your day to soak in His Word. Let your habits become a sanctuary where your mind can be renewed and your soul anchored in His presence.
